The idea of a foreign bride is hardly original. During the 1800’s in the USA, it was very common for men to write ‘back East’ to find themselves a bride. Their brides would join them in ‘the colonies’ as America expanded east to west. Today, with the entire Russian brides for marriage globe mostly populated and with the common use of the Internet, foreign dating has evolved. But not much has Russian brides for marriage
changed. Men are still interested in finding a mailorderbride from a distant land.
Reasons for seeking a Russian bride, a ukrainian bride or one from elsewhere can vary. Most likely, the stereotype of the lonely more mature gentleman is still true. But ‘attractiveness’ is a relative thing, and there are thousands of regular people from all walks of life seeking a mail order bride.
In some cases, it’s the romance of the exotic that is attractive. In other cases, men are seeking a wife who is more traditional in her outlook and values than many women are today in modern cities.
From the point of view of the woman, her motives are equally varied. She may be looking for a better life than seems possible in her home country. Or, she may be seeking a man who needs and wants her and is willing to treat much better than the local men do.
Some of these matches do not work out if either of the couple have unrealistic expectations. On the other hand, overcoming the legal, financial and emotional hurdles of two people from different countries can often bring them closer together. What originally made the mail order bride system a success was a shared struggle and the need to stay committed. Modern mail order agencies are successful for exactly the same reason.
